1.8. The Consonant Ц and the Sibilants Ж, Ч, Ш, Щ


Consonants pronounced by directing air through the opening between the upper and lower teeth are called sibilants. The sibilants are ж, ч, ш, and щ. The letter ц is always pronounced hard.
