6.11. Class XI Verbs - Present & Simple Future Tense

Identification
- Class XI verbs:
  - End in -ить: бить (to beat)
Conjugation
- Class XI verbs are conjugated by dropping -ить:
  - б-(ить), п-(ить), ш-(ить), разв-(и́ть), уб-(и́ть), разл-(и́ть)
- The personal endings are then added:

бить (to beat)
- б-(ить)
  - -ю: я бью́ (I beat)
  - -ешь: ты бьёшь (you beat)
  - -ет: он/она́/оно́ бьёт (he/she/it beats)
  - -ем: мы бьём (we beat)
  - -ете: вы бьёте (you beat)
  - -ют: они́ бью́т (they beat)

Peculiarities of Class XI verbs
- Class XI verbs are derived primarily from:
  - бить (to beat), пить (to drink), лить (to pour), вить (to twist), шить (to sew)
- Class XI verbs introduce the -ь prior to all personal endings
  - шить (to sew) → она́ шьёт (she sews)
- Class XI verbs with certain prefixes introduce a vowel following the prefix:
  - влить (to pour into) → ты вольёшь (you will pour into)
  - разли́ть (to spill) → она́ разольёт (she will spill)
  - сбить (to knock down) → мы собьём (we will knock down)
  - обли́ть (to pour over) → они́ оболью́т (they will pour over)

First Person Singular: я (I)
- Formation: бить (to beat)
  - Drop -ить: бить → б-
  - Add -ю: б- → бью́ (I beat)
    - Note insertion of -ь-
