The Memory of Vera Butova
Butova Vera Alekseevna was born in 1932 in a village near Kursk. She recalls the invasion of the Germans in June 1941, the closure of the school and the looting of shops and homes. She studied in a basement during the war, where only basic lessons were allowed. Victory Day on 9th May 1945 brought joy but also sadness as not everyone returned from the war, including her father.
