Language 360 Method Compositions - An Overview

The Language 360 Method compositions consist of real-world language broken down into small understandable segments in both audio and written format. These segments are then "glued" back together into their original sentences and paragraphs.

Segments

The Language 360 Method audio composition segments are presented in an alternating parallel format. In other words, the segment of one language is played and immediately followed by the segment of the other language. This audio arrangement continues to the end of the composition alternating in this manner. There are three compositions employing alternating parallel segments called Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3.

Level 1 Segments

Depending on the structure of the sentence, a Level 1 audio composition is made up of the shortest alternating segments which consist primarily of clauses, phrases and some single words. A Level 1 segment can be a short simple sentence of 5 words or less; an independent, dependent, subordinate, adjective, or adverb clause; a prepositional, participial, or absolute phrase; an appositive; a title; a sentence subject; words, phrases, or clauses separated by a coordinating conjunction; or, words, phrases, or clauses separated by a natural pause in speech. Example:
Я работаю в 5-м цехе

с 1933 г.

Выговоров и замечаний никогда не имел

и всегда стараюсь добросовестно выполнять свою работу.
I have been working in the 5th shop

since 1933.

I have never had reprimands nor negative comments

and I always try to conscientiously carry out my work.

Level 2 Segments

A Level 2 composition is more challenging than Level 1 in that it glues the Level 1 segments back together, usually forming their original complete sentences. Level 2 segments consist primarily of complete sentences, a small number of very short sentences, parts of very long sentences, or short single-sentence paragraphs. Example:
Я работаю в 5-м цехе с 1933 г.

Выговоров и замечаний никогда не имел и всегда стараюсь добросовестно выполнять свою работу.
I have been working in the 5th shop since 1933.

I have never had reprimands nor negative comments and I always try to conscientiously carry out my work.

Level 3 Segments

A Level 3 composition takes the sentences from Level 2 and reconstructions them, usually forming their their original paragraphs. Level 3 segments consist primarily of single paragraphs, multiple short paragraphs or multiple sentences from a very large paragraph.

The English Composition

The Language 360 Method also provides an English-only composition. This composition is not without benefit. By listening to the English-only composition the learner will be able recall how certain English words and ideas are expressed in Russian. This serves to further reinforce the Russian language in the learner's natural thought processes. Example:
I have been working in the 5th shop since 1933. I have never had reprimands nor negative comments and I always try to conscientiously carry out my work.

The Russian Composition

Using the building-block approach through Levels 1, 2 and 3, the objective of the Language 360 Method is to bring the Russian language learner to complete and accurate comprehension of the Russian-only composition. Example:
Я работаю в 5-м цехе с 1933 г. Выговоров и замечаний никогда не имел и всегда стараюсь добросовестно выполнять свою работу.

Language Direction

The Language 360 Method arranges the audio segments of each Level as described above into Russian-to-English and English-to-Russian compositions. The examples given thus far have been of Russian-to-English compositions, which present the Russian language followed by the English. By following the Russian segment, the English serves to reinforce comprehension of the preceding Russian expression. It should be noted that it is not important which language direction is listened to first.

English-to-Russian - Level 1 - Sample

The English-to-Russian composition is just as important as the Russian-to-English one. As mentioned, each Level has a separate audio composition for both language directions. The English-to-Russian audio composition plays the English segment first, followed by the Russian. The English segment now serves as a cue to what will be said in Russian. Example:
I have been working in the 5th shop

since 1933.

I have never had reprimands nor negative comments

and I always try to conscientiously carry out my work.
Я работаю в 5-м цехе

с 1933 г.

Выговоров и замечаний никогда не имел

и всегда стараюсь добросовестно выполнять свою работу.

Summary

By repetitively listening to Levels 1 thru 3, the learner will ultimately arrive at the point where the English audio is no longer needed. It is also at this point of comprehension that the learner will notice a natural and spontaneous urge to speak. The learner is gaining the ability to manipulate and adapt the words, segments and sentences into his or her own speech. The brain will be populated with contextual words and phrases that can be easily recalled in future real-world situations.

-- Proceed through the next pages for a more in-depth look at the Language 360 audio compositions.
The alternating segment playback feature ensures the learner is continuously exposed to Russian and context (via the English audio segments) which will plant meaning in the brain. By lengthening the segments the learner will proceed with a building-block approach and eventually attain the ability to do away with the English version altogether.
